The lovely summer weather of Friday, August 20th was perfect for our
annual membership meeting and fundraising picnic at the Discovery
Trail. The tables were bright with color, the BBQs were hot and the food
was great! The silent auction tables were a busy spot all evening. Entertainment by "Who Are Those Guys" was wonderful and they led a river-focused
sing-along to close our evening.

Spring is in the air and lots of rain too. But the moisture and warmer days mean the plants and trees are starting their growing season. Look for the Indian Plum blossoms and the smell of the cottonwood trees.
Spring also means that we will see the first results of the restoration projects completed last fall. The Boistfort Valley Farm had over 1,200 trees and shrubs were planted last November. The Discovery Trail riparian area also had several work parties to plant in areas that had been devastated by the flood of 2007; a total of 847 trees and shrubs were planted.
If possible, those who helped to plant should visit the site this spring to view the new growth.
Summer will mean that efforts are underway to complete grant applications for invasive weed control, and future planting. It is possible that mowing and spraying at particular sites will occur during the summer.
Access clean-up - every month the Chehalis River Basin Land Trust is responsible for litter clean-up at two WDFW fishing access sites. We have adopted the Black River access west of Rochester and the access north of Hoquiam on the East Fork of the Hoquiam River. Gloves and garbage bags are provided.
To help at the Black River, contact the Land Trust office at 360-807-0764
To help on the Hoquiam River, contact Jan Strong 360-495-3950

New Local Groups Forming
The Centralia Stream Team, the Lewis County Community Trails, the Over-the-Hill-Gang for Centralia city parks and the Growing Places Farm and Energy Park (GPFEP) have all formed recently in the Centralia area to better the community’s natural assets, to help youth and to involve citizens in their local community.
And the Chehalis River Basin Land Trust is part of all this!
See the latest issue of "Drops of Water" for a report on the China Creek evaluation.
GPFEP will have a community work party in January. Contact Danielle Craig (Farm Manager and CRBLT Board member) for more details.
